Challenge Day Success

Boyle Scouts have done themselves really proud once again competing in our Annual County Challenge Day held on Saturday 6th March in Lough Keel Campsite. In the Scout Section, our Boyle Team finished in a well deserved 1st place with a great effort put in by the Team throughout the day. In the Cub Section our Monday Cubs also took 1st place with our younger Tuesday Cubs putting in a brilliant team effort to scoop 2nd place.
Teams from Boyle, Ballinamore, Carrick on Shannon, Longford and Lanesboro/Ballyleague took part on the day demonstrating their skills in many areas of Scouting including Air Activities, Backwoods Cooking, Emergencies, Pioneering and Sailing/Rowing.
Congratulations and well done to all 3 teams (pictured below) and their Leaders. Also a word of thanks to all of the Leaders from Boyle and the other Groups who organised and ran a very successful and enjoyable Competition.
Our Boyle teams now go forward to represent Lough Keel Scout County in the National Challenge Competition in Larch Hill, Dublin on 17th/18th April. We wish them all the very best of luck.

Scouts Indoor Camp - Rosses Point 26th - 28th February

The Scout Section had a very enjoyable indoor camp at the Rosses Point Sea Scout Den last weekend. The weather although cold, was dry with even some sunshine! The scouts planned, cooked and prepared all the meals for the weekend. The Scouts spent most of Saturday on the beach learning new skills and taking part in challenges and games.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the trip to the RNLI Lifeboat Centre where the Crew gave the Scouts a tour of the facility and also gave them a talk on Water Safety. The scouts were also invited to the centre on Sunday morning to see the lifeboat being launched and operated as part of a training exercise.

Peak 2000 Hike

Our Annual Peak 2000 Fundraising Hike took place on Sliabh Ban, Strokestown on Sunday last, 21st February. Boyle Scouts had over 120 Members, Leaders and Parents taking part in the event. Weather conditions were almost perfect for hiking. It was cool and dry with a few traces of snow in places, to add to the cold feel. All were rewarded for their efforts with BBQ Burgers, Hot Dogs and Hot Chocolate at the summit. Boyle Scouts would like to thank everyone who participated and helped out on the day and to all who supported our members so generously in the fundraising effort. (A few Pictures below)
A special word of congratulations and well done to Michael Grehan who received a presentation on the day to recognise and thank him for his help in designing a new County Badge for Lough Keel Scout County. His design along with 3 others were used to formulate the final design which you can see below.

Venture and Rover Sections Paintball Trip

Our Ventures and Rovers had a day paintballing in Bray on Saturday last 20th February. The hugely popular sport proved a big hit with our sharpshooters and not so sharp!! Plenty of stories and bruises are going down in evidence of their feats! There are a few photos below of the troops.
